The Rite Of Declaration

How do you tell your peers you can no longer be friends with them because their lifestyle is in conflict with your desire to sustain a Catholic Relationship with Christ, and avoid their wrath?

You Don't. You should never suggest breaking off your friendships. That would be against Christian Principles. And because of your journey into a union with Christ your peers will need you now more than ever before. They just won't realize it yet. Although it is they whom may wish to sever ties with you for presuming to be too good for them now that you have found Christ. And this would make it very difficult for you to reconcile with them later when you come to your senses and realize that there are no friends like old friends. The prudent and Christian manner in which to approach a situation where the lifestyles of your peers conflict with your desire to maintain your Christian Principles is to first take a moment to find your conscience and compassion, and then your Christian courage and leadership because you are going to need them for what you are about to do next.

This may be the greatest thing you could ever do both for your friends and for yourself. Invite your friends over for a dinner or a get-together, or attend a function where all of your friends are expected to gather. If you choose to attend a function instead it is appropriate to obtain permission from the host. When it appears that the moment is right. Seize it! With a Christian authority. Tap on a glass while asking everyone to gather near and stress that you have an important announcement to make. After they have drawn near and you now have everyone’s attention you can say:

I want to share some great news with everyone here tonight because you are my dearest friends and I do love you. We have been through many obstacles together and I personally was able to pull through some very tough times because you have been there. That’s why I want to share this glorious news so that you may celebrate with me. I have made a solid commitment to dedicating the rest of my life to pursuing and maintaining a close relationship with Christ. This means from this day forth it will be my intention to keep and live by my Christian Principles. I invite each and every one of you to join me in this journey of living a Christian life. If you choose not to join me at this present time be assured that I will be here for you when the time is right for you. Because you have been there for me.
